DIY Home Decor – Skeleton Leaf Gallery Wall

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that we’ve been doing quite a bit of house renovations. We just finished our guest bathroom reno, less the glass partition wall – which WILL be going in after the holidays. Needless to say, our renos are not cheap, meaning I’m having to find ways to decorate the house with restoration hardware taste on a wayfair budget.

Enter IKEA. You guys know I love IKEA. Even if we did have a restoration hardware budget, you’ll probably still find me at IKEA. Their design is good you guys and I would say that with my hand on a bible. I.Love.IKEA.

I needed a little something on the walls in our living room and knew I wanted some sort of gallery wall with an art light above, just didn’t know what I wanted in the frames. I knew I didn’t want “bed bath and beyond art.” You know, the art that just looks like it’s been mass produced and hangs in every dental office? Yeah, no thanks.

I decided to do a little searching on Amazon. I mean, Amazon has everything so if you’re trying to find it, they probably have it. I started searching for dried palm leaves, similar to the Pottery Barn wall art (below), but then though those palms may be a little too boho for my style and just started clicking through similar products in the bottom and sure enough I stumbled upon “skeleton leaves”

Inspo from Pottery Barn:

Skeleton leaves are simply leaves that have been treated with chemicals so all that’s left is the skeleton of the leaf… hence the name. They’re delicate and beautiful, but most of all – neutral!

Here’s what you need:

Steps:

  1. Add glue to the center backbone of the leaf and press lightly onto cardstock.
  2. Let dry for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Mount cardstock onto mat window that comes with IKEA frames using the clear packing tape.
  4. Put into IKEA frames – and voila

I hung these beneath an art sconce light, also from IKEA. Made this whole situation more restoration hardware-esque, no?
